Sunday afternoon we went to a kite show on South Padre Island. The sky was filled with many stunt kites, very large kites, steerable stunt kites, shaped kites and one kite that pulled a go-cart. There was a world renowned group called I-Quad with six members flying their kites. They were joined by a Rio Grande Valley group and their show was spectacular. Their kite flying was like precision swimming, but in the sky. We will share a few pictures of the event.
When the two groups were flying their precision kites, they had 40 kite strings in the air at once. Each kite uses 4 strings to control their actions. Their goal was to entertain us but also to keep the strings untangled. This is the group flying the kites.

Yesterday, we went to Los Ebanos to see the 3-man ferry. It costs 50 cents one way, to ride on the ferry. The cables are tied to Alder trees on either sides and a rope and pulley system is used to put the ferry across to Mexico. This is an ancient method, that has proved successful and continues to be manned by three Mexican men who pull the ferry across by rope . We did not drive our car across but could have for $2.50. We needed our passports because we went onto the water. Neat experience!
After the ferry ride, we had a picnic snack provided by Fred, with Elsie's assistance. It was cool but a great sunny day with friends. The Gingerich's had three couples from Alberta with them.
